Why The Use Of CAPTCHA On Websites?

The full meaning of captcha is Completely Automatic Public Turing Test to Tell Computers and Humans Apart.  It can also be said that Captcha is a word verification code test, which can be read and understood by human beings. It is a type of challenge–response test used in computing to determine whether or not the user is human. 

 Examples of Captcha are:

 1. Math Solution

This type of captcha involves basic mathematical problems and if you cannot solve this basic questions then you will not be able to visit the website further. This involves easy to read numbers and must be solved to get through the captcha. They are simple questions that even a Nursery School pupils can solve.

2. Picture captcha

This captcha allow users to select the correct image that they are asked to select. In a situation whereby you are asked to select a particular picture and the picture is not among the pictures being displayed, you are allowed to skip so that a new captcha may be displayed.  

3. Word captcha with an audio option

In word captcha, you need to correctly write the word, which has been displayed, in an empty box. But some of the word images are hard to solve. To pass through, you are allowed to use the option of “Recaptcha” in order to receive a new one.  You can also  use the audio option if you can not visually make out the word. 

4. Slider Captcha

This plugin gives you the ability to add captcha to your forms. They are easy to use and very useful to keep the spammers away. This plugin lock is disabled until a person slides it to enable it.

Those are some of the examples of Captcha we have. But, why the use of Captcha? This is one question that people ask most especially when they visit a website and the kind of captcha they come across is difficult to solve and this can be so much frustrating. 

Now let's take a careful look at why CAPTCHA was introduced to websites and the benefit of it.

Captcha was introduced to prevent bots as well as other programs of computer for submitting or accessing Web servers or websites. It was also introduced to prevent websites from spammers. No Bots or Computer program can read and understand the word of Captcha. 
Captcha was first used by yahoo site. Websites have been using it since the year 2000. It comes in the shape of an image in which there are somewhat distorted numbers and letters. 
Captcha is also used in attempts for preventing automated software from executing actions in order to retain the service quality of a specified system. Thus, Captcha is something, which safeguards websites against automated assaults by proffering tests which only human being can pass but present computer programs fail to do so.

You see now why Captcha was introduced. So, if you come across Captcha on a site you visit, you do not need to ask questions again. Everyone is just been security cautious. They just need to protect their site and one way to do that is the use of CAPTCHA.
